Pensions : Tax relief on Personal contributions 2019

An individual will get income tax relief on their pension contributions up to an annual limit related to their age and net relevant earnings subject to an earnings cap of €115,000

This limit will also apply to contributions paid in 2019 which are to be backdated to the 2018 tax year

Income tax relief is given at the individual’s marginal rate. There is no relief against PRSI or the USC.

If the individual is self employed they must include their pension contributions in their self assessment tax returns in order to get income tax relief.
